20-03-09 - ASVA - European Tour Cancelled!
We are sorry to announce the upcoming tour for ASVA has been cancelled! We have tried every way to still make this work, so they did not have to dissapoint you, themselves and everyone else involved in this, But it was apparently not possible to avoid a cancellation. We already had a bunch of good shows confirmed and the tour already looked promising. The band and myself are very sorry about this and wish to apologize for any inconvenience this brings along. Please find below a statement bu Asva's Stuart dahlquist:

"It is with great regret that Asva has decided to cancel our upcoming April and May tour dates. Over the last several months we've watched the itinerary grow and our excitement at the prospect of playing so many cities to which we had never traveled grew in kind. We watched the forums and saw the progression of the tour as YOU worked to promote our show(s), even before we had been formally informed of the dates. Regrettably we, Asva as a band, as individuals, and our label Southern Records have been hit very hard in the recent economic downturn and we've found it impossible to secure our passage to Europe. Our last ditch efforts directed at third parties (including relatives) as well have been fruitless... simply put; we're out of money. Its our hope that in the future you will continue to be interested enough in Asva's music to offer and lend us your support. Best, Stuart Dahlquist"

06-10-08 - PELICAN robbed in Rome!
Pelican was robbed while on tour in Italy this past week. The group has issued the following statement:

"Our otherwise excellent tour of Europe hit a severe stroke of bad luck this week. Two days ago we had a spare half hour to spend in Rome before heading to the venue, so we decided to go see the Coliseum. We parked nearby and went to take a brief twenty minute walk around the area. When we returned to our van we found that it had been broken into, despite being parked on a major street in broad daylight. Four bags were stolen, the contents including computers, passports, wallets, ipods, our soundguy's microphone collection, and, most devastatingly, a number of personal journals and two portable recording devices containing hours of song ideas that are now lost forever.

"The calculated loss of this theft is several thousands of dollars. Unfortunately our band only earns us a very meager living and some of us are already in the hole from years of trying to make a living as musicians. This incident therefore poses a devastating loss and puts us in a very compromised financial position. Although we realize that there is a worldwide financial crisis going on, if there are those of you who have the means and desire to help out our gratitude would run deeper than words could express. We've set up a Paypal account at the address pelicanrobbed@gmail.com. Anything you can offer, even simple condolences, would go a long way. Thanks so much for reading."

The outfit will once again traverse the Pacific to grace North America with their parameter-free rock experimentation, this time alongside Nine Inch Nails! 02-09-08 - R.I.P. Sunburned Hand of the Man's Adam Nodelman
Sunburned Hand of the Man lost a core member recently when Adam Nodelman passed away suddenly at his home in Woodstock, New York on August 25. The cause of his death is still unknown. He was 43 and left behind a wife and three daughters.

In addition to Sunburned, Nodelman played in numerous bands throughout his musical career, including Borbetomagus, Missing Foundation, Motherhead Bug, Crash Worship, Franklin's Mint, Bunnybrains, and Shitsweat.

Memorial services for Nodelman are being planned in Woodstock, New York City, and western Massachusetts. Anyone who has photos or video footage of Nodelman is encouraged to contact Sunburned Hand of the Man at sunburnedhand@gmail.com

Brooklyn’s MADE OUT OF BABIES sign to THE END RECORDS

Rapidly gaining notoriety for producing some of the most original, emotionally charged music, the band is set to release their most explosive album to date: The Ruiner.

"The Ruiner is drastically different from our other releases (Trophy, 2005 and Coward, 2006, Neurot Recordings)," relates the band. "From start to finish, creating this album has involved exploring new, and sometimes unusual, methods of collaborating, writing and recording."

Guitarist Brendan Tobin built his own studio where the band spent months writing and demoing new material. When accomplishing new writing goals began to require more hours than there are in any given day, an unorthodox schedule began to unfold. Brendan Tobin (guitar), Cooper (bass) and Matthew Egan (drums) wrote and demoed songs part of the week. Tobin and singer Julie Christmas met separately to work on vocals.

The decision to make The Ruiner the best record possible required each member of the band to try new things, to break old habits and to learn a great deal about their respective instruments and working together as a band. The result was 9 new tracks that fully showcase the individual and collective talents of the quartet. The Ruiner is tumultuous, violent, vicious, introspective, sweet, massive, complex and raw all at once – qualities only hinted at in small doses in the first two releases.

The band tracked and mixed the 9 new songs with producer/engineer Andrew Schneider (Cave In, Converge, Pelican, Daughters, Thalia Zedek, Old Man Gloom, Unsane) of Translator Audio in Brooklyn. The album also features guest appearances by Jason Watkins (keyboards, Mouth of the Architect) and Greg Burns (Pedal Steel, Red Sparowes).

Post-metal icons ISIS have been confirmed as the headliner of the Friday Roadburn Festival date — April 18, 2008 — at the 013 Club in Tilburg, The Netherlands.

Currently celebrating their 10th anniversary as a band, the Boston-to-Los Angeles transplants will help fans take part in their milestone anniversary by releasing their entire catalog in one deluxe 12 vinyl-LP box set, and their headlining slot at Roadburn 2008.

Throughout the years, ISIS have maintained their position in the vanguard of post-metal by consistently exploding the idiomatic strictures that have defined heavy music with each successive release. Roadburn reveres ISIS and feel they warrant discussion alongside such established pioneers as NEUROSIS and CELTIC FROST.
 
The 13th annual Roadburn Festival will take place April 18-19, 2008. Swiss outfit Knut has solidified its line-up in the wake of the departure of guitarist Jeremy Tavernier several months ago. First the group added a guitarist named Tim. Now, most recently, a friend of Tim's by the name of Christian has also joined the band.

Here's a comment from the band: "We found a hard-working dude willing to take the chance. His name is Christian, he's an old friend of Tim's and he seems to be working out fine. He's got his own gear, he's got a sound and can play fast. Plus he's alarmingly mellow and will be a father for a second time this summer. So it looks like we're a functioning band again, a goddamn five-piece ready to shred - live and hopefully on record before Bush gets kicked out of office..."

16-01-06 - YOB Call it quits !
Eugene, Oregon-based doom metal band YOB have called it quits. An official statement from the group's founding member Mike Scheidt reads as follows:

"I regret to say that YOB is disbanding after almost 10 years of existence. The time we spent with YOB exceeded our wildest expectations and hopes and it has truly been a dream come true. Travis Foster and Isamu Sato left the band in July, and I have been trying to decide what to do for the last six months. YOB has had three other line-ups, but this one was the best. At the end of the day the best thing for YOB is to call it a day.

"I want to thank everyone who has been supportive to YOB over the years....labels, bands, fans, the venues, our families....without you none of this would have been possible. I will be working on a new band called AGE that will very much be in the vein of YOB, with some new twists. Until then, be well and stay HEAVY! ENDLESS DOOM!!!"

Augusta, GA @ LOKAL LOUDNESS LIVE-

minutes before our set was to start we are told we can't play, better yet we aren't getting paid. After a series of fantastic arguements between the owners and Andrea, one of the owners of this club swings a baseball bat at andrea. It was more of a move to scare her than injure her, either way she runs outside to call the cops.

If that wasn't bad enough another one of the owners starts pushing over our equipment. He was inturn knocked to the ground by a member of our tourmates READ YELLOW. After being pushed to the ground he pulls out a gun and points it at the guitarist for READ YELLOW and I.

We got out unharmed but still needed the cops to get our gear from the club. We never found out why we were cancelled, and better yet... we were never paid. sick times!
